Turn the mirror in,
Lest carelessness should come past fast
And strike it to the ground.
Therefore, in care the mirror turn
And, like it, turn around.
For safety comes in turning in
One’s view, not to be found,
But poor the view, the learning in
Oneself, which is not sound.
Illusory the safety then, illusory the dream,
Illusory the self-obsessed; illusion is the theme.
Now such illusion sees itself when others should be seen,
And in the search for safety fails, and turns the mirror in.
